POWER POEM BY NICK STOJAKOVICH!
Thursday, May 13th, 2010They arrived at Bethsaida. Some people brought a sightless man and begged Jesus to give him a healing touch. Taking him by the hand, he led him out of the village. He put spit in the manʹs eyes, laid hands on him, and asked, ʺDo you see anything?ʺ
He looked up. ʺI see men. They look like walking trees.ʺ So Jesus laid hands on his eyes again. The man looked hard and realized that he had recovered perfect sight; saw everything in bright, twenty‐twenty focus. Jesus sent him straight home, telling him, ʺDonʹt enter the village.ʺ Mark 8:22‐26 (The Message)
MEN AS TREES WALKING
I see men as trees walking
Some as oak
Some as weeping willows
Some maples
Some a barren fig
I see men as trees walking
Some devoured
Some straight
Some bent
Shattered by lightning
Twisted in the wind
I see men as trees walking
In the forest far from sight
In the city late at night
Sapped of all strength
Crying a lament
Thirsty and bare
Such a hollow stare
I see men as trees walking
Uprooted
Unearthed
Decayed
Cut down
I see men as trees walking
Through a parched and barren land
On pathways with no room
Roots embracing sand
Bearing a strange fruit
Ripe for reckoning
(Pause)
I see a tree planted by streams of water
Full and evergreen
Yielding fruit in season
Attracting desire
Appealing to reason
I see a man standing
Where trees once went walking
Prosperous
Free
Delightful to see
I see a man standing
Giving shelter
Comfort
Sustenance for body and soul
Making whole
I see a man standing
In the rain
Joyʹs journey set before
Enduring pain
Despising shame
Unabashed
I see a man standing
Suddenly cut down
Pierced and crowned
Laid upon timbers
Hoisted high
Left to die
Abandoned in the noonday sky
As trees walked by
I see a man hanging
Cursed
Death so near
As forsaken
Forgiving weeping willows
Shattered oaks
Crushed maples
I see a man laid in the sod
A desert rose
Resurging through the earth
A tree of life
Roots flourishing by mercies streams
Evergreen
I see seeds scattered
Nearby and abroad
I see the earth’s landing
Covered with men as trees standing
I see men abiding
Side by side
Roots going deeper
Yet groaning
In earnest expectation
Of a coming revelation
Calling out to men as trees walking.
