“THE I AM STATEMENTS OF JESUS CHRIST” – PART 2

Thursday, April 9th, 2015

The book of John has Seven of the Great “I AM” statements of King Jesus, the Lord of the Universe – your Lord and my Lord and Savior. In Part 2 of this PLUMBLINE program, we look at the rest of the story. The great author/commentator Warren Wiersbe had a great exposition of the I AM statements of Christ and I exhort you to read them here, along with watching this program:
SEVEN “I AM” STATEMENTS FROM THE BOOK OF JOHN
1. The Bread Of Life – Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will never go hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty.

2. The Light Of The World –When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” (John 8:12)

3. The Gate – I am the gate; whoever enters through me will be saved. He will come in and go out, and find pasture. (John 10:9)

“Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. “If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. John 14:13-14.

There is ceremonial prayer and then, there is actual prayer. Ceremonial prayer is similar to the account which the Lord Jesus Himself gave when He told of the Pharisee and the Tax Collector both praying in the house of worship. He said in Luke 18:11: “”The Pharisee stood and was praying this to himself: ‘God, I thank You that I am not like other people: swindlers, unjust, adulterers, or even like this tax collector.” Then inverse 13, we read: “But the tax collector, standing some distance away, was even unwilling to lift up his eyes to heaven, but was beating his breast, saying, ‘God, be merciful to me, the sinner!’

The difference between the two men were this: the Pharisee prayed to Himself while the Tax collector cried out to God in repentance.
