PRAY FOR …..THOSE IN AUTHORITY

Saturday, August 20th, 2016

1First of all, then, I urge that petitions, prayers, intercessions, and thanksgiving be offered on behalf of all men 2for kings and all those in authority, so that we may lead tranquil and quiet lives in all godliness and dignity. 3This is good and pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, 4who desires all men to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:1-3)

It is getting more and more difficult to pray for those in authority in governments of all levels, due to the condition of the world. Most of these institutions run by man have become not just cesspools of corruption and incompetence, but act contrary to the wishes of those who elected them. In places huge land masses like Asia and the Middle East where hundreds of millions of Christians are persecuted, it is even harder to pray for those in authority as commanded above in Scripture. Yet, I suspect that these wonderful persecuted saints pray even more for their persecutors than we would do in the west. In fact, I heard that they have, after listening to some of their missionaries who travel to the west.

PRAY FOR…..OTHERS

Saturday, August 20th, 2016
  1. Job 42: 7-8: 7 And so it was, after the Lordhad spoken these words to Job, that the Lordsaid to Eliphaz the Temanite, “My wrath is aroused against you and your two friends, for you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has. 8 Now therefore, take for yourselves seven bulls and seven rams, go to My servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt offering; and My servant Job shall pray for you. For I will accept him, lest I deal with you according to your folly; because you have not spoken of Me what is right, as My servant Job has.
  2. 1 Timothy 2:1-2: Therefore I exhort first of all that supplications, prayers, intercessions, andgiving of thanks be made for all men, 2 for kings and all who are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and reverence.

One of the greatest honors and privileges in life is to be asked to pray for someone.  This discussion is not about the usual “thoughts and prayers” we hear from the secular world, which is neither thinking or praying to the only Real God in Heaven – Yahweh – Who only listens to the prayers of those who are saved. What we are called to is an intentional and meaningful lifestyle of intercession or praying on behalf of others.
