The word “Hallowed” has different meanings to different people. To the baseball fan, hallowed is Yankee Stadium or Wrigley Field. To the football fan it’s the Hall of Fame in Canton, Ohio. To the Christian, it’s the Mount of Olives outside Jerusalem.

But in New Testament terms, especially the LORD’s PRAYER (below) it means “holy” or “make holy”….from the Greek word “hagiazo”. Today, we continue in our examination of what Jesus meant when He said…”THIS IS HOW YOU PRAY”. Again, the Lord’s Prayer below is a guideline and not meant to be a stand alone prayer as most people make it.
Matthew 6: 8-13:

Our Father in heaven,

      Hallowed be Your name.

      Your kingdom come.
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors.
And do not lead us into temptation,
But deliver us from the evil one.
For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.

(As aforementioned, the following brief prayers based on each phrase of the Lord’s Prayer, are from my own prayer Journal, bl)

HALLOWED BE THY NAME:

Heavenly Father Your Name is so Holy the ancients would call you YAHWEH, Jehovah God. Father every Name of Yours and Your Son in the Holy Oracles of Scripture has special meaning sent from You.

DON’T DENY THE GIFTS OF GOD

Sunday, July 31st, 2011

A lot of Christians demand “signs” and “wonders” before they would/could believe in the Power of Christ or EVEN GOD HIMSELF.   Here is what Jesus says about such people in Matthew 12:39 (ESV) “But he answered them, “An evil and adulterous generation seeks for a sign, but no sign will be given to it except the sign of the prophet Jonah”.

The Bible does say in Romans 1:16 that the GOSPEL – literally the Good News of Christ found in the Bible – is the “Power of God” unto Salvation.  The Bible also says in 1 Corinthians 1:18 “For the word of the cross is folly to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God.” So Scripture explains scripture!

So we don’t need any signs and wonders to be saved – all we need is the word (the Gospel) which talks about the Word Who became Flesh – the Lord Jesus Christ! Anybody who preaches otherwise is wrong. This Truth cannot be denied.
